According to an announcement made earlier today by co-creator Ryan Murphy, the second chapter of American Horror Story will now be fittingly called "American Horror Story: Asylum."
"We picked 'Asylum' because it not only describes the setting — an insane asylum run by Jessica Lange's character which was formerly a tuberculosis ward — but also signifies a place of haven for the unloved and the unwanted," executive producer Ryan Murphy said in a statement. "This year's theme is about sanity and tackling real-life horrors."
The show, which now features characters in a mental institution, has recruited a host of big names for this years cast, including Lange, Zachary Quinto, Adam Levine, James Cromwell and Joseph Fiennes.
The first chapter of American Horror Story — which featured Lange, Quinto, Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott and was set in a haunted Los Angeles house — received 17 Emmy nominations last month, setting a record for the most nominations for a miniseries in history. The show qualified as a miniseries because the first season had a definitive conclusion.
American Horror Story returns to FX in October.
