THE DEVIL INSIDE - How Did It Do At The Box Office? We Have The Numbers!

After some of the most painful reviews in recent history that we've experience for a horror film, Paramount’s "The Devil Inside" couldn't be derailed. The film was shot on a shoestring budget for $1 million dollars and after the weekends end it took in an astonishing $34.5 million, which gives it the title of "best-ever US debut to start a new year."

Competition was nonexistent and the marketing for the film is what really paid off. The film is also the third-highest January debut coming in just behind "Cloverfield" ($40.1 million) and the "Star Wars re-issue" ($35.9 million) which debuted in 1997.

Will we see more of THE DEVIL INSIDE in the future and is this a new boom for possession movies? You be the judge. The film was a critical failure but when does that matter in the world of Hollywood movie making, especially in the horror genre. We'd love to hear your thoughts.

I personally thought the movie wasn't bad. It had some genuinely creepy moments, and I actually thought the ending was pretty ballsy. It leaves nothing solved and so many questions unanswered...which makes perfect sense for a movie like this. Not only was this movie a critical failure, but a failure in the eyes of movie goers everywhere...so I highly doubt there will be any more 'Devil Inside'-esque movies. Then again this is Hollywood...you never know anymore. If there are, I will gladly watch them! If not...i'll live.

I really think this will be another Paramount franchise. Regardless if there's been alot of internet negative reviews, I'm sure there are alot more people out there who don't even bother with reviews online, that liked the film.

The movie did make money, but few people actually LIKED it. True, there may be some who don't pay attention to reviews, but I don't see any sequels doing as well as this one did...Who knows?

I saw it on Friday night..The theater sold out, and I was lucky..Right after I bought my ticket, the guy who sold it to me was told not to sell any more tickets because they just sold out...As for the movie, it wasn't perfect..But I liked it, and I was creeped out by a lot of it..When I saw it, some people were booing at the ending, but to me ( and I am not going to spoil it) the ending seems like what might happen if that situation was really happening.

Agreed! The movie wasn't perfect, but it wasn't horrible either, IMHO. There were some creepy scenes in it. Although I've never witnessed a real Exorcism (No one here has, I'm sure) the scenes in which depicted people possessed, would have seemed to be pretty accurate, I think. I even thought this movie was more accurate then "The Last Exorcism" I would have to say though, having 2 Rogue Priests going out and performing Exorcism's without the Church's consent or knowledge of what was taking place, is far fetched. The Church isn't perfect, but still.
