Disney Lands The Rights To Bring Neil Gaiman's 'The Graveyard Book' To The Big Screen

Whether your a mega collector of comic books, or just like to pick up a random issue here or there, one name that you should be well familiar with is Neil Gaiman. Most noted for his comic book series The Sandman, and novels Stardust, American Gods, Coraline, and The Graveyard Book, Gaiman's writing have won the talented author numerous awards, and as a result he's a pretty hot commodity these days. So hot that Disney has just made a high six figure deal to bring Gaiman's bestselling children's title The Graveyard Book to the big screen.

The book, which won the Newberry Medal among other awards, is a riff on Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Instead of a boy raised by wolves in the jungle, Gaiman tells the story of the last surviving child of a murdered family raised by ghosts in a graveyard.

The book attracted attention at every studio upon release, but Disney walked away the winner. Originally Irish Academy Award-winning filmmaker Neil Jordan was signed on to write and direct a film adaptation, but unfortunately the film never got it off the ground. But now that Disney secured the deal, it's safe to say that we can expect to see the film in the very near future.
