Great question and the answer is yes you can use copyrighted music. Because these are contest entries and are not being sold for monetary gain any music will work. Good question and hope that helps.

The video can be up to 5 minutes long at the most, does that count credits, either opening or closing or even both. Not long credits but just a mentioning of the people involved?

Or does it mean just 5 minutes of actual footage? :JASON:

On a note about the music, Youtube has a pretty good agreement with a few record companies so if you use music protected by them, I think Warner Brothers is one, they'll drop all of your audio. Be sure to test it first. If you can't get around Youtube, try Vimeo.com.......as long as Justin, Lord of the Brazilian Girly Boy Brigade, will allow it. I've had to use them several times for stuff Youtube wouldn't allow. Nothing infuriates you more than spending hours making something only to have Youtube say that the audio was protected so your ENTIRE audio track has been dropped!!!

I found what helps me the most in those situations on Youtube is by citing the music in the description. Several of my videos have copyrighted music, and have not had the music dropped when I do this. The only thing you get is a thing that indicates that you have copyrighted music, and that they will not take any action..etc..hope that helps!
