THE DEVIL INSIDE: A Film The Vatican Doesn't Want You To See!

New postby BooMan » Wed Dec 28, 2011 1:59 pm

If you're expecting directors William Brent Bell to phone in your standard "demon possession" exorcism movie than you are wrong. THE DEVIL INSIDE is unlike anything horror fans have witnessed before. The story revolves around Fernanda Andrade (who plays Isabella Rossi) and Suzan Crowley (who plays Isabella's mother, Maria Rossi) and unlike your typical exorcist film, she hasn't been possessed by merely one demon but many have taken her soul. Many have been possessed by one; only one has been possessed by many. Check out the summary below:

Plot Synopsis: "In 1989, emergency responders received a 9-1-1 call from Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley) confessing that she had brutally killed three people.  20 years later, her daughter Isabella (Fernanda Andrade) seeks to understand the truth about what happened that night.  She travels to the Centrino Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Italy where her mother has been locked away to determine if her mother is mentally ill or demonically possessed.  When she recruits two young exorcists (Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth) to cure her mom using unconventional methods combining both science and religion, they come face-to-face with pure evil in the form of four powerful demons possessing Maria."

The film stars Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth, Suzan Crowley and many more. It was penned by William Brent Bell (who also directed the film) and Matthew Peterman.

Look for THE DEVIL INSIDE to posses theaters everywhere on January 6th, 2012.

I can't convince myself to want to see this film. 99% of exorcism movies suffer from the same weaknesses: they're predictable, they function at an insanely slow pace, they attempt to sell shock value that rarely works (I've seen enough dislocated limbs to not be remotely near shocked by the contorted shots in the red band trailer) and they're, generally, pretty boring. Sadly, I don't see any early indicators that this one will be any different. I see a shitty but expected $8-10 million weekend debut for this one. Quote me, hopefully I'm wrong in this assessment, but it's not likely.

Just saw this garbage. Save your money. This makes "The Last Exorcism" look like a masterpiece. Can't imagine anyone paying to see this feeling good about the money they spent on it........

It really looks terrible, and a lot like The Last Exorcism. This is a found footage film, isn't it? What the hell, we just got one of those with pretty much the exact same plot (again, Last Exorcism). I can't believe they'd pull the same crap so soon. Plus, the idea of them trying to market this as "real" (as most found footage films tend to do) is just an epic fail. This whole genre of horror is just really worn out. Zero appeal here.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you guys here. My and a bunch of friends saw it last night at midnight and thought it was really intense. I would recommend everyone that likes exorcism movies to see this. Personally I love that subgenre, some don't. This was execution on a ton of levels.

I actually enjoyed this one.

Right before I walked out the door to head off to the theater I saw a 5% rating on rotten tomatoes and it almost stopped me. However I thought, "there have been other movies out there that I've completely disagreed with the critics on so maybe there's a chance I'd like it".

Maybe it was because I had such low expectations but I still find the current 8% rating WAY too harsh. Is this the best movie ever made? No. Is it the best horror movie ever made? No. It's not even the best demon possession movie but it's still a good movie with descent scares and interesting story. In the end, did I feel like I wasted my money? No. Then, mission accomplished.

*SPOILER ALERT*

I've read countless complaints about the ending and I can see how some people didn't like it however I found the finale VERY realistic. If there was this "Found Footage" of an incomplete documentary it would end just like that . . . without an ending. Why? Because the filmmaker died and so it wouldn't have a real climax and resolution. However, it wouldn't have hurt to give the audience a little text sequence explaining what happened to everybody after the car crash with lines like, "No bodies were ever found" or "All involved in the car accident were found dead". Anything would have been better than what they gave us . . . which was nothing at all. Luckily I've snapped out of Hollywood's brainwashing of the American moviegoer and I don't HAVE to have a three act structure, climax, resolution to feel good about a movie.

Still, one of my friends pointed out the back story to the "Ben" character. Throughout the movie the demons keep provoking Ben and bring up his past. I didn't put two and two together at first. Early on Ben said he had been to 4 exorcisms but had only conducted/helped with one. It was obvious, Ben had been a victim of demon possession and had killed his mentor uncle. This explains his desire to help others with similar experiences and why he is so willing to defy the catholic church.

I could complain about a few things (like why would the hospital leave the daughter and camera man in a closed room with an insane women without somebody else in there with them) but I think the critic's reviews MORE than covered all of this.

*END SPOILER*

Again, I think many of the reviews on rotten tomatoes are unfair, unjustified, desensitized and biased - WHICH IS COMPLETELY FINE BECAUSE EVERYBODY IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION ABOUT FILM - but don't expect an objective summary of the movie if you like using that site to help you determine if a film is worth seeing or not.
