James Cameron Wants "Terminator 5" to Focus on Arnold's T-800 Character

New postby BooMan » Tue Apr 17, 2012 5:15 pm

With director Justin Lin out of the picture the "T5" project is up in the air. In an interview with MTV, James Cameron revealed the advice he gave Schwarzenegger regarding returning to the franchise.

"I was talking to him back in fall about a new 'Terminator' film and quietly advising on that," he explained. "I was trying to be as encouraging as possible. Frankly, at that time, I thought it needed to be more about him. I told him he should not do it until it's focused on his character. I think there are some great stories that can be told about that character that haven't even been thought of yet."

Just recently, Lin dropped out of the project to focus on the sixth "Fast and Furious" film. At this point, it's unclear what the status of "Terminator 5" is, but it's starting to look like if it ever happens, it will be all about Schwarzenegger's character.

I'd like to see a movie that can either pick up after Salvation or be intertwined with it. Maybe explain the origin of the Arnold character. Was he modeled after an actual soldier?

Yeah actually there is a great story behind that. One of the T2 novels focuses on a retired FBI agent the T800 is based on protecting Sarah and John Connor from makeshift terminators. Skynet basically picked the best soldier from military files from around the world and based the size and appearance on him. It's an amazing book and would be an awesome film.

I really like that idea. I've always been a big Terminator fan, so this would be a very cool story.

Damn that sounds really good, I wish Cameron would just do it himself!
